In the end, it really came down to the word of a 6-year-old girl against the word of a grown man. A jury in Ramsey County District Court believed the girl and convicted the man, Gene Hegerman, 54, on Friday afternoon of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.

The family of a child who died after she was found unconscious while under day care supervision is speaking out for the first time after the toddler’s choking death was ruled accidental. On Friday afternoon, exactly one week after her second birthday, Isabella Estep was pronounced dead after she was transported Friday afternoon from the Woodbridge Day School in Dallas to Baylor Medical Center in Garland.
